It was supposed to be a senior year spring break filled with backpacking adventures in the mountains and a chance for Britt to reconnect with her ex-boyfriend. Instead, Britt and her best friend Korbie found themselves in the middle of a blizzard on the way to Korbie’s parents’ cabin in the Tetons. Rather than stay in the vehicle, Britt and Korbie decide to walk and try to find help. A few hours later they find a cabin and hope that the men who open the door will let them in to warm up. Instead, believing that Britt is an expert hiker, the men take her hostage and demand that Britt lead them out to the road so they can escape. Britt has no idea what they are running from or if she will make off the mountain alive.
Why I picked up the book: The author’s Hush Hush series is very popular with my teens. I was interested in the fact that it is set in Yellowstone and not fantasy. I received a copy as a gift.
Why I finished it: The introduction starts out with a scary bang that makes you want to keep reading. I really liked it. The author does a good job of making the character very much a teenager, and having to sort out people’s motives. Would be good to read on a snowy day.
I’d give it to: Fans of C.J. Box, readers who aren’t afraid to read in the dark alone, older teens (as the first scene is a girl being drugged, kidnapped, and murdered.)
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
