Seed Library

Plant seeds. Grow community.

The Seed Library of Natrona County helps community members get growing with easy-to-grow flower, herb, and vegetable seeds selected to thrive in central Wyoming’s climate. Designed especially for beginners and newcomers to gardening in our region, our Seed Library makes it simple to start a garden at home. No experience required.

The Seed Library is offered in partnership with Natrona County Library, the Natrona County Master Gardeners, and Grow Casper Urban Farm. Together, we combine local horticultural expertise, community education, and public access to support successful, sustainable gardening across Natrona County.

How the Seed Library Works

The Seed Library of Natrona County is free and open to everyone during normal Library hours.

Community members may select up to six packets of seeds per year, depending on availability. The collection focuses on locally hardy, open-pollinated varieties chosen to perform well in our growing conditions. Genetically modified seeds are not included.

  • Seeds are free and available to the public

  • A library card is not required

  • Availability varies based on supply and demand

  • The Seed Library is housed inside the Library

We encourage seed saving and sharing when possible, but returning seeds is always optional and may be restricted by law for certain varieties.

More Than Seeds

Beyond seed access, the Seed Library connects the community to learning opportunities and practical resources through:

  • Gardening programs and workshops

  • Seasonal planting and seed-sharing events

  • Education on seed saving and sustainable growing

  • Ongoing collaboration with local experts and partners

  • Gardening kits available for checkout through the Library of Things

The Library’s gardening kits make it easier to get started without needing to purchase tools. Available for checkout through the Library of Things, these kits include basic equipment for planting and care, such as pruning shears, hand tools, a 5 gallon bucket, and other essentials to support successful growing at home.

Together, these efforts support food literacy, environmental stewardship, and confidence for gardeners of all skill levels.
