‘Tis the season for fun and festivities. Here’s a book to spark some ideas for future parties, whether celebrating holidays or just life!
Let’s Get This Party Started: DIY Celebrations for You and Your Kids to Create Together. Games, Crafts, Recipes, Decorations and More! by Soleil Moon Frye
As a teen librarian and a mom of a preschooler, I’m always on the lookout for fun, fresh, new-to-me ideas for parties. This book is a great example. The themes range from holidays and birthdays, to themes such as pirates, rainbow/color, 80s and spa days. The parties can be adapted for any age group and can be done on any size budget, with a huge shopping list or items you’ve found around the house.
Why I picked up the book: I’m a child of the 80s, so of course I read “Punky Brewster’s” memoir. I thought the cover of her new book looked fun too.
Why I finished it: It was very fun and fresh, with lots of great color photos. Fun themed parties that you can create with materials around the house, rather than having to spend a million dollars (who knew celebs can be thrifty!). I could see some of them being adaptable for teens. I want to use some of the spa items (making foot scrub and perfume).
I’d give it to: parents, but also teens who enjoy celebrating and throwing a party or sleepover. Also anyone who works with their youth group or girl scouts would find helpful ideas.
My rating: 3 of 5 stars (I liked it!)
