Book/Manga Review: Hellsing by Kouta Hirano

Hellsing (vol 1) by Kouta Hirano

Abraham Van Helsing’s legacy still lives on in the form of the Royal Order of Protestant Knights, which is now headed by Abraham’s great descendant, Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Helsing. Integra, a stalwart and intelligent woman, is in charge of a group known as Hellsing, which specializes in slaying anything and everything supernatural or enemies that would threaten Her Majesty the Queen of England. Integra is supported by strong troupes, but mostly by her protectively deadly butler, Walter, and her trump card, a vampire named Alucard who has sworn himself under her allegiance. Recently a new threat has begun to rise against Hellsing, led by a man whose sole desire is war and carnage, and he has also rallied the supernatural power of vampires to his side. However, Alucard is not like other vampires, and Hellsing is a stronghold that is not to be trifled with.

I picked this book up because it looked dark and interesting.

I finished this book because is was so appealingly bizarre.

I’d give this book to any fan of original vampire lore.

Rating: **** Really liked it!
