At the library, we are not just about books; we are all about writers too! That is why we are launching a new writing group; Writer’s Bloc will meet the fourth Tuesday of each month in the Crawford Room from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Writer’s Bloc is an inclusive writing group. Writers of poetry, fiction, memoir, fan fiction, or anything else are invited to join us.
The library has been home to another writing group, Wednesday Writers, since 2011. Wednesday Writers was started by former Natrona County Library Reference Librarian Nicholle Gerharter as a way for people to focus on writing their memoirs. This group meets on the first Wednesday of each month on the main floor of the library at 10 a.m. Wednesday Writers has always welcomed writers of all genres, but the group has largely focused on memoirs. Over the years, Wednesday Writers has enjoyed an array of participants. We have welcomed new members and said goodbye to original members including Nicholle, but a devoted core of members attend month after month and year after year.
Unfortunately, meeting at 10 a.m. on a Wednesday can be difficult for people who attend school or work. We hope to attract a similar group of devoted writers to Writer’s Bloc. It is important for writers to be able to meet up and bounce ideas off one another. By creating a writing group that meets in the evening, we hope to serve writers that would otherwise be left out. So grab your notebooks, laptops, napkins, and anything else you may have jotted ideas on and join us for an inspiring hour of writing and discussion.
