The Addams Family Mansion Mayhem

A Staff Review of a New Video Game

Anyone that loves the Addams Family will immediately fall in love with Outright Games’s newest addition: The Addams Family Mansion Mayhem. Players are able to choose a character from Gomez, Morticia, Pugsley, or Wednesday. While each have their own special move, these moves are shared so that you are not penalized for choosing one character over another.

This 3D platformer follows the kooky family as they try to save their house from the villainous Kyle, who has plans to transform the Addams’ Family mansion into an escape room and buffet… cleverly called Kyle’s Escape Room and Buffet. The controls are straightforward and have you jumping, swinging, kicking, and running through the kitchen, graveyard, music room, and laboratory in order to collect coins and avoid the bad guys unique to each section.

1 to 4 players can play at once. There is not an online co-op mode, so everyone must be in the same room making it a great party game. Every 2 to 3 levels is a mini-game, which can also be selected from the mini-game menu.

This game is rated 10+ for Fantasy Violence and Mild Blood. There is quite a lot of dialogue between levels, which is all typed on screen, so at least one player should be a proficient reader.

I would give both the graphics and the soundtrack 4 out of 5 stars. There is nothing profound but it does the game justice. It took me just under 7 hours to earn all 15 of the achievements. Only 2 would be considered tricky, and they include Complete A Level Without Respawning and Complete A World Without Respawning.

Pros include multiplayer ability, funny dialog, unique character abilities, respawning

Cons include incomplete storyline, respawn loop in later levels

Available for Xbox, PS4, and Nintendo Switch
