A Valuable Community Service
The role of a Library Trustee is a crucial one in providing quality library service to Natrona County. Each trustee brings a unique perspective to the job and is a valuable asset. Trustees represent the community to the library staff and county. Thoughtful decision-making, attendance at meetings, and consistent attention to changing needs, are all part of a Trustees participation.
Library Board of Trustees and the County
The Library Board consists of five individuals appointed by the County Commissioners. The Commissioners, by appointing a board, delegates to them the responsibility for operating and maintaining the library. The board communicates the librarys needs, often through the Librarian, to appropriate elected officials or county staff.
The Library Board also establishes policies regarding the operation of the library system. In addition, the board is responsible for proposing an annual budget for operation and maintenance of the library and overseeing expenditures of budgeted money.
Library Board and Staff
The library staff is employed by the board and is responsible for effective administration and operation of the library, including materials and equipment selection and distribution, personnel, and hours of public service. The Librarian reports to the board on all matters of library operation.
Acknowledgement
The contribution of valuable time and skills by each Library Board member is gratefully acknowledged and appreciated. With an understanding of the mutual goals of all those interested in quality library service, a satisfying and rewarding experience can be shared.
