Star Wars Storytime @ Crawford Room
May 4 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am

As part of its May the Fourth Star Wars Day Celebration, the Natrona County Library will host Star Wars Storytime on Thursday, May 4 at 10:30 a.m. Kids of all ages are invited to don their Star Wars attire and costumes and join us for Star Wars-themed stories, read aloud. Star Wars Virtual Reality Demo @ Crawford Room
May 4 @ 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Don’t miss the chance to immerse yourself in a galaxy far, far away when the Natrona County Library hosts a Star Wars virtual reality experience on Thursday, May 4 from 12 noon to 3 p.m. Wield a lightsaber and battle storm troopers in this seven minute Star Wars adventure. Free and open to the public. Tickets will be handed out at the beginning of the event, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Star Wars Day Celebration & Art Walk @ Library
May 4 @ 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Drop by the Natrona County Library anytime between 4 and 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 4 to celebrate Star Wars Day. A variety of activities and crafts for all ages will be offered including galaxy ornaments, string art, thumbprint doodle buttons, bubble wands, sidewalk chalk, and Jedi Training Camp. Star Wars trivia will be held for adults with questions taken from characters, planets, species, and events relating to Episodes I-VII and Rogue One. Three 30-minute sessions will be held, and three trivia winners will receive a $35 Amazon gift card. Four selfie stations and five Snapchat filters will also be available for Star Wars fans to use, and various Star Wars characters, played by Dream Upon a Princes staff, will be at the library available for photos. In celebration of Children’s Book Week, to stop by the Natrona County Library to meet local children’s authors Gayle Irwin, Shauna Murray, and others following our Saturday Storytime on May 6 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. They’ll share stories & activities, and you’ll have a chance to meet Gayle’s dog, Mary, who is featured in one of her newest books. Craftastic Saturday: Glass Etching @ Crawford Room

The Natrona County Library will host an adult crafting program on Saturday, May 6 at 2 p.m. Make your own pieces of functional art as you learn glass etching, a chemical process that leaves a permanent waterproof design on the surface. Learn how to make the perfect etched design. The library will provide the materials, tools, and design stencils needed to create personalized cocktail glasses. Edward S. Curtis Photography Exhibit @ Library Atrium
May 7 – May 24 all-day

The Natrona County Library will host a traveling photography exhibit showcasing the work of Edward S. Curtis, available to view at the Main Branch from Sunday, May 7 to Wednesday, May 24 in the library atrium. The exhibit features pieces from Edward S. Curtis’ “The North American Indian,” a grand work that provides a permanent record of 80 North American tribes through ethnographic notes and over 1500 photographs included in 20 volumes. Accompanying the volumes were 20 portfolios containing 36 photogravure prints each. A selection of these images in digital format will be on display. As part of the Natrona County Library and Reliant Federal Credit Union’s Financial Literacy Series, a talk, titled “When Financial Hardships Happen,” will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 8 in the library’s Crawford Room. A Reliant FCU representative will discuss what a garnishment is and how it can affect your bank account, debt management and consolidation, how to work with financial institutions in hard times, and how delinquencies and repossessions affect credit. The Natrona County Library will offer a Google Chrome class on Tuesday, May 9 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. This introductory class will cover the basic features and functions of one of the most popular web browsers. Learn about add-ons, extensions, how to download and install Chrome to your computer and how to sign in to Chrome using a Google Account. Don’t miss the chance to immerse yourself in an entirely new world when the Natrona County Library hosts a virtual reality demo on Saturday, May 13 from 2 to 5 p.m. Choose from over 40 of the best virtual reality games and apps while being taken through a guided experience with the HTC Vive. 2017 Wyoming Reads Celebration @ Library

The 2017 Wyoming Reads Celebration for Natrona County will be held Tuesday, May 16 at 11 a.m. at the Nicolaysen Art Museum and the Natrona County Library. During this celebration of literacy, all Natrona County first graders will receive a hardback book of their choice, courtesy of the Sue Jorgensen Library Foundation. For information about Wyoming Reads, visit wyomingreads.org. To accommodate this important literacy event, Beech Street and the Library’s parking lot will be closed from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the safety of the children. City Bus stops will be moved to Durbin Street. A temporary book drop will be available at the Library’s Durbin Street entrance. Ignite Casper @ Adbay

The Natrona County Library partners with Oil City News and The Table to present Casper’s first IGNITE event at the Adbay theatre on Thursday, May 18. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., the event begins at 6 p.m.

Ignite is a series of speedy presentations given in the spirit of “Enlighten us, but make it quick.” Each five minute presentation is accompanied by 20 slides that advance every 15 seconds. The result is fast and fun storytelling about every subject under the sun. Casper’s first round of storytellers is slated to include Alaina Binfet, Deb Clark, Matthew Farnsworth, Elliott Ramage, George Vlastos, and Anna Wilcox. Jeremy Hugus will MC the show.

Eclipse Lecture Series: History of Eclipses @ Crawford Room

The upcoming total solar eclipse will be the topic of a talk by Rod Kennedy, Casper Planetarium Educator. As part of the Natrona County Library and Casper Planetarium’s Eclipse Lecture Series, the talk, titled “History of Eclipses,” will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 18 in the library’s Crawford Room. Kennedy will discuss the history of eclipses in art, literature, and mythology as well as their role in science and world cultures. The lecture is open to the public and free of charge. Photo Editing @ Tech Center

The Natrona County Library will offer a Photo Editing class on Friday, May 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Learn how to use GIMP, a free and powerful alternative to Photoshop, during this extended three-hour class. Basic concepts for photo editing (or manipulation) will be covered, including how to color correct an image, adjust the levels, adjust the hue and saturation, sharpen the image, tweak the brightness and contrast, and add a vignette. The Natrona County Library’s Family LEGO Club will meet on Saturday, May 20 at 1 p.m. Family LEGO Club is a great way to have fun, relax, and spend time together, making this the perfect family activity. The Library will supply a large amount of LEGOs and ideas of what can be created. Family LEGO Club is held the third Saturday of every month. An afternoon book discussion, sponsored by the Natrona County Library, will be held on Saturday, May 20 at 2 p.m. at Metro Coffee Co. Connecting US20: Linking Communities Together through Art @ Crawford Room
May 22 @ 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm

The Natrona County Library will host an interactive art event on Monday, May 22 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Connecting US20 is traveling art event that seeks to link local writers and art across America’s longest highway. Participants will connect multi-colored safety pins into chains, symbolizing the linkage of communities across the country.
