The Natrona County Library and Central Wyoming Astronomical Society will host a sun party for all ages on Thursday, August 17 from 12 noon to 3 p.m. at the Natrona County Library. The program will begin with a 30-minute presentation titled, “Goldilocks and the 3000 Exoplanets,” by Amateur Astronomer Mady Parks. Parks is a docent at Robert Ferguson Observatory, a Girl Scout, and active in the community. Mady won her telescope through “Striking Sparks,” a program that provides children with telescopes who in turn share them with friends, neighbors, and schools in order to promote astronomy. For the last three years, Parks has committed to sharing her passion with anyone who shows an interest. Following her presentation, attendees can participate in a variety of solar activities as well as view the sun using an H-alpha and white light solar filter. Viewers will see sun spots, prominences, and surface granulation, weather permitting. Call 577.READ x2 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
