Homework Help for Everyone @ Your Library
By Jenn Beckstead, Teen Librarian

School is back in session and the school supply lists seem to grow exponentially each year. Let Natrona County Public Library help ease your burden by reminding you about one of the most important school supplies. It’s free, and opens the doors to countless opportunities: your library card.
You may already know that with a library card you can borrow fiction and nonfiction books, graphic novels, newspapers, magazines, audiobooks, movies, and music CDs. But have you tried one of the free online resources your library has to offer?
A lot of information for school projects can be found on the internet, but how do you know it’s accurate and reliable? The library has many project and topic-specific databases to help. Most of them can be used from home 24/7 with an internet connection and your library card. Ask a librarian how these resources can work for you.
Live Homework Help® is one of our best online resources for all ages. This free online classroom gives students one-on-one access to real, professional tutors every day from 3-9 p.m., the prime time for doing homework. Subjects include all levels of math, science, social studies and English, with a writing center to help organize, write, and edit papers.
NCPL began offering Live Homework Help® last year, thanks to a grant from the Natrona County Recreation Joint Powers Board. More than 460 students have already taken advantage of this valuable resource.
Last year, a 7th grader wrote, “It was great helping me on my essay. I updated it and needed a new edit and wow, it's better than ever. I would recommend it to all my classmates but the paper is due tomorrow! Next time. :) Thank you homework help!!!”
One 10th grade student said, “I am so happy that this is here. I know that I would be very stressed out about this assignment! I hope that whoever is reading this knows that the tutors are greatly appreciated! Thank you so very much! I will use this as much as possible!”
Live Homework Help® has expanded its services this year, now helping students in grades K-12 and introductory college courses. Spanish-speaking tutors are available in math and science, Sunday through Thursday from 3-8 pm.
Tutors are available to adults as well, helping with GED prep, adult education classes, or writing assistance for your resume, work assignment or future novel.
Besides offering help for typical classroom assignments, tutors can teach research skills, edit papers, and help students understand the themes, symbolism, and other literary elements found in classical novels. They give help, not answers, so the student comes away with a better understanding of the topic.
Online tutoring in this controlled environment increases computer literacy for all ages, assists parents in providing quality homework support, and helps younger students to practice fine motor skills.
If you’ve never tried Live Homework Help ®, give it a test run any day from 3-9 pm. Just click on the Live Homework Help® link at the bottom of NCPL’s website, www.natronacountylibrary.org.
