Summer Fun @ The Library

When’s the last time your cracked open a good book?  Children, teens, and adults alike are invited to investigate the joy of reading at Natrona County Public Library this summer.  Mysterious Summer reading programs begin Monday, June 11th and continue through July 31, and include special prizes and activities for each age group.

Adults can “Clue In @ The Library” by recording the time they spend reading books, magazines, newspapers, internet articles, business-related materials, emails, and more!  Pick up a reading log at the library to begin earning prizes.  Adult programs include a special magic show by Magician Cody Landstrom, and a visit from popular mystery author C.J. Box.

Children entering preschool through 6th grade will practice their sleuthing skills this summer during “Get a Clue @ Your Library.”   The program encourages youngsters to read for fun during the summer, while enjoying the library’s mystifying events, special guests, and great books for kids.  Follow the footprints to the library to discover the mysterious magic of Cody Landstrom on June 12, 13, & 14. Inquiring minds will want to know Suzanne Lively’s secrets after watching her Suzaloonz Balloon Stories on July 5.  Additional guests sure to amaze and entertain include a Dragons Are too Seldom Puppet Production on July 12 and Wayne & Wingnut, a ventriloquist act, on July 25 and 26.

Storytimes suited to the tiniest detectives will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 10:30 am.   Primary grade students will enjoy ”Eye” Spy & Cam Jansen Mystery parties.  Tweens (students entering grades 3 -6) will be lured to the library by specially designed programs such as “Finger” the Evidence and Forensic Fun. The Tween Book Club will continue to discuss books of interest to this age group monthly, and the popular Dinner & a Movie programs that we’ve held for teens will be replicated for the tween set as well.

Teenagers can also enjoy summer reading fun by discovering YNK (You Never Know) @your library, a reading program designed for students entering grades 7 through 12. The mystery begins June 11 with an Open House in the Teen Zone to include registration for summer programs, food, prizes, and more.

In addition to earning mysterious and mind-boggling prizes for reading, teens can put their CSI skills to the test to uncover the lineup of activities that will be offered.  Evidence suggests that teens will explore their literary sides with several book discussions, and investigate Anime Club, DDR, movie nights, and a Casper Rockies game.  Full lists of events for each program are available at the library.

Throughout the summer participants in all three of NCPL’s Summer Reading Programs will be able to earn prizes for the number of books they read or the time they spend reading.  The importance of reading is no mystery. Students who read through the summer are more likely to retain what they learned during the school year.  We invite you to clue in to NCPL this summer and spend some time disappearing into a good book.

The library’s summer schedule began May 27 th and will continue until Labor Day weekend.  Summer hours are as follows: Monday-Thursday 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m., Friday – Saturday 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. (closed Sunday).
