Artistic Expressions in 2007

April 18, 2007
The visions of children will adorn the library this April when NCPL once again hosts the Natrona County School District's Elementary Art Show April 19 thru May 17. "Artistic Expressions in 2007" promises a plethora of paintings, sculpture, pottery and self-portraits created by students in kindergarten through sixth grade.
Highlighting the month-long show will be a reception for the public on Thursday, April 26th from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm, when visitors, art teachers and many students will celebrate this annual event with hands-on activities and entertainment.
Elementary art teachers have spent the school year collecting pieces representative of their students' work, and every wall will be brimming with illustrations of each one's unique talents. Each student, kindergarten through grade six, will have at least one piece of art on display—resulting in an estimated 6000 pieces of artwork.
As this year's visitors cruise through the Crawford Room, they will find a Caribbean showcase of pottery and ceramics, hand woven baskets and other decorative pieces representing the incredible diversity of craftwork originating from the tropical islands of the West Indies.
A few short steps into the Children's Department will take you back to your childhood. Art work inspired by favorite fairy tales such as "The Three Bears," "Snow White," or maybe "The Gingerbread Boy" will surely enchant each and every guest.
Walking through the rest of the library, visitors will discover three dimensional objects de arte adorning the bookshelves, penciled self-portraits framing the walls, and magnificent mobiles suspended from the ceilings.
Amazingly, it takes the art teachers only a couple of days to find just the right place for each of these one-of-a-kind pieces. The walls and the halls of the library will start coming to life on Thursday, April 19th when the art teachers, along with a group of dedicated parent and community volunteers, descend upon the library with tape, push pins, and staplers in hand. By the end of the next day, NCPL will be transformed into a colorful showcase of student skill and talent.
While the art show will be available for viewing through May 17 during the library’s regular hours, the "Artistic Expressions in 2007" open house traditionally features demonstrations by student artists, as well as musical entertainment interspersed throughout the evening. Students will provide hands-on art demonstrations on each floor for those who wish to satisfy their creative curiosity.
Guides from each elementary school will assist reception guests in locating children’s masterpieces. NCPL expects students and their families, teachers, school district personnel, local dignitaries, and many others—over 1,000 people to explore the exhibit and honor Natrona County’s young artists at this evening reception April 26, beginning at 5:00 pm.
2007 marks the eighth year NCPL has partnered with the school district to host the elementary art show; and as in years past, “Artistic Expressions in 2007” promises to be one of your library’s most awe-inspiring events.
