Renovated Bob Goff Memorial Library Now Open
By Hilery Walker, Community Relations Coordinator
November 2 , 2005
The start of the 2005-2006 school year also marked the beginning of a new era of library services in Mills. The recently expanded Bob Goff Memorial Library opened its doors to the public on September 6, and Mills residents celebrated the new facility during an open house on October 28.
The 1,400 square foot addition, designed by Casper’s Amundsen Associates and built by Gurkin Construction, has nearly doubled the library in size. Not only is the library more welcoming, with plenty of space between shelves for browsing and places to sit and read, but there is also a community room available for public use. Similar to the Crawford Room at the main library, organizations can rent the room for workshops, seminars and meetings. Please call 265-6017 for more information.
A fresh coat of paint and new carpeting have also added to the library’s friendly atmosphere. With the new furniture and shelving purchased by the First Interstate BancSystem, Friends of the Natrona County Public Library and the Natrona County Recreation Joint Powers Board, it is easy to drop by the library and grab a book over your lunch hour or linger as you read the morning paper or a bestseller. The library offers four computers with Internet access as well.
Children will also be excited with the library’s many improvements. In addition to a great selection of picture and chapter books located in a special section just for kids, the library is now offering some great activities. Storytime for children ages 3-5 takes place every Tuesday morning at 10:30 in the library’s community room. Elementary-age kids are welcome to take part in Games Galore on Friday, November 4 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. A fun way to spend a day out of school, students can enjoy an afternoon playing some of their favorite games. Be on the look out for more activities for children in the coming months!
This expansion is the realization of a dream started by Bob Goff, former mayor of Mills, and carried on by current mayor Joe Dill. Their vision was to create a resource for children’s literacy in Mills. The facility’s design and collection have been directly tailored to achieve this goal. Following Bob’s death in 2003, the Town Council officially renamed the branch in his memory.
Current hours of operation are Monday-Thursday, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM and Friday, 1:00 – 5:00 PM. The Bob Goff Memorial Library is a happening place – drop by and check it out!
